Fitzroy Island Resort is located on a tropical island within the calm sheltered waters of the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park, just 45 minutes by boat from Cairns. The island is a listed National Park and has only one resort. Fitzroy Island Resort offers affordable 4 Star accommodation in a range of luxurious Hotel Rooms and Suites.
The island is a tropical paradise where guests will have the opportunity to snorkel, dive, sea kayak and discover the magic of the Great Barrier Reef. Explore rainforest walking trails or escape and unwind on a deserted beach. Fitzroy Island is ideal for families or a romantic escape..

Two Bedroom Island Suites consist of an Ocean Suite and a Resort Room, each with their own locking door and a shared common entrance. Families with young children prefer to have the children sleeping on the sofa bed in the main ocean suite room as some families find the rooms too separate. Sleeps 4 to 6 guests
Resort Child Policy: All suites have a Double Sofa bed/lounge in the lounge room. One or two children may be accommodated on the Double Sofa Bed in the lounge room - The extra person charge for the sofa bed of $55 applies. Two children may share the sofa bed at the cost of one person on the sofa bed. Should a rollaway be required the additional person rate applies.
Beachfront Cabin - ideal for families: Located with direct beach access these cabins are ideal for families. They have a Queen bedroom directly off the entry balcony and a separate small bedroom with 2x single beds at the rear of the cabin.

Penthouse: The Penthouse boasts 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms; this apartment is truly the jewel in the crown of Fitzroy Island Resorts accommodation.
The Penthouse features a spacious living, dining, and kitchen areas with the
living area having direct access to the large outdoor balcony with magnificent
views over Welcome Bay. Luxurious master bedroom with King Size Bed
integrated marble bathroom with a 2 person spa bath and balcony access.

The resort itself has a fabulous pool, swim up pool bar, cinema and small supermarket that stocks the basics.
Please note that if you do intend on self-catering, it may be an idea to bring some food with you from the mainland.
The island is surrounded in beautiful fringing reefs which are teeming with marine life. The best snorkelling is off the rocks between Welcome Bay and Nudey Beach. Expect to see Turtles, tropical fish and many colourful corals.
Internet is available in public areas and the main building at a small cost. Mobile phone service is available on the Island is variable and not in all locations.
Free Activities:
Rainforest walking trails -Fitzroy Island is covered with magnificent rainforest and features many walking tracks ranging from a short stroll to Nudey Beach through to a more challenging hike to the Summit. Secret Garden 1km, Lighthouse 3.6km, Summit 2.6km return, Nudey Beach Track 1.2km.
In-house Cinema - Operates daily -1pm, 4pm, 7.30pm., the cinema screens some of your favourite movies throughout the day and evening.
Fish Feeding - Enjoy this unique experience as we feed the fish from the jetty and shore as they swim amongst your legs. Feeding times are twice daily, at the end of the Fitzroy Island Jetty -11:30am & 4.00pm
Whale watching: July to September - recommended viewing from the Lighthouse.
Video Games Room - Just in case the kids have had enough of swimming and exploring the island, the games room has a selection of Puzzle Boards, Board Games, Books, old and new favourites for both little and big!

- Scuba Diving: Fitzroy Island is a continental Island with fringing reef, it is a unique and diverse breeding ground for the Great Barrier Reef. Located approximately 29 km around Cape Grafton from Cairns, the gateway to the Barrier Reef. At Fitzroy Island there is a fully equipped dive shop and professional team to cater for diving and training.

Isolation on Fitzroy
Great place to unwind. There is barely any mobile phone service which helps you unwind. They have designated Wifi areas which you have to pay for, but it is quite cheap.
The beaches are mainly coral, but the water is great. tons of marine life right around the beach. We saw turtles almost every day
The food options are very limited so I would recommend a room with a kitchen and then you bring your own food to cook most meals

Our family stayed two nights at Fitzroy Island. Recommend the 3rd floor ocean view suite. A little extra cost but worth the view. If you have a kitchen, take as much food as you can. The resort bar / cafe is reasonable but general store is expensive.

Fitzroy Island is an amazing place!!! We spent 3 nights in a beachside cabin which was great value for money. The turtle rehab centre and fabulous snorkelling just off the beach were a highlight along with the hike up the summit. The staff were awesome, very friendly and fun. Would definitely recommend this place to anyone :)

Overall very good Resort. More activities would be god. We did have an issues with our rooms on check in. We specifically requested connecting rooms with the second room being a twin room. We were allocated a double bed for the second room eventhough the booking specifically requested twin beds. To the resorts credit they did change our rooms.

It was wonderful staying there for four nights but would recommend getting an Ocean view suite with cooking facilities as dining options were limited. Most of the staff were so bright and cheerful as if they had been hand picked, especially the guy who ran the dive shop within the hotel and the receptionist Jodi.

I would recommend this to families
Fitzroy Island resort was beautiful to look at and the rooms were spacious. There were a lot of maintenance issues in our room which we reported to the resort. It is a great place to stay, but the accommodation needs an update. The fact that our children were in a completely separate room and had to get through a locked external door if they needed us in the night was not expected, but we managed. Proper \"family\" 2 bedroom suites would work better for most people. We loved the island and enjoyed all the facilities. The pool was too cold for most for swimming in July. It would have been better if they could invest in solar pool heating for the cooler months. I would recommend this to families as a good 4 star resort.

Perfect Island Getaway
This resort is beautifully situated, nestled into the hillside with magnificent views of the sunset. We had an ocean suite on the 3rd floor and it was just perfect sitting on the balcony looking at the water, mountains etc. You can swim/snorkel straight in front of the complex, or walk to the several other inlets nearby. The National Park offers some good walks which is also a bonus for an island resort. It is only a 40 minute trip from Cairns. I would advise travelers to shop up in Cairns for essentials as the general store only has basics and the suites are so comfortable with fully equipped kitchen etc, for the times you dont feel like eating out for breakfast, lunch or dinner. The restaurant was very good and Foxys Bar has pub type food for those relaxing evenings. I travelled with my husband but would like to return with my grandchildren in the future. I think it would be a childs paradise, with the swimming, snorkeling and watersports.

The island is beautiful
The island is beautiful and we really enjoyed the snorkelling. The resort facilities were good and well maintained. Staff are very friendly and helpful.
Unfortunately the food is VERY overpriced and meal sizes are small. They have a general store on the island, but it has hardly anything in it other than chocolate and ice creams. The 2 restaurants only open on meal times, so if you get hungry in between meals, you just go hungry (which makes things very difficult when travelling with a toddler.

Fantastic holiday!

Hi everyone at Travstar, My daughter and I have recently returned from our package trip to Fitzroy Island. I was extremely happy with the whole package and nothing was too much trouble for anyone on Fitzroy for us. The resort staff also let us into our room early as it was ready and this was greatly appreciated as we had arrived from WA at 4am that morning and were in much need of a shower and a lie down. It is a beautiful place and well worth the visit. I wish we had stayed longer!!

Front reception service was great

Overall we did have a nice time
Overall we did have a nice time and for the most part the staff were good (all of the bar/restaurant staff and the rooms division manager were all exemplary in their service).
Sadly there was a few items/incidents that let down the experience a bit.

Snorkling and the coral was breath taking.
What a place we stayed here for 3 nights 4 days in a Studio would recommend this Island to every one. Restaurant a bit pricy service on our first night was very slow and the food not that good, but on the third night service was good meal was better. Snorkling and the coral was breath taking.

We chose this resort based on price as we were on a tight budget for our second honeymoon. We loved it so much we paid to stay an extra 2 nights. The dive school was brilliant, I scuba dived for the first time ever and loved it. My husband, a regular diver, found the price service and experience great. The island was tropical paridise, staff were fantastic, the food brilliant and the facilities were amazing for the price. We are already planning our next trip, with the children this time, they will love it too.

Fitzroy Island resort
The resort was well organised. The food was of excellent quality, friendliness of staff was consistently very good, the facilities of the resort very comfortable. The only let down was there is only one small beach that is really suitable for sunbathing & swimming as it is the only beach with sand. The rest of the island is very rocky or has coral which is hard to walk on. To access Nudey Beach it is over a 500 metre walk through bushland and steep rocky paths. A number of people were unable to make the walk - wheelchair bound, elderly or unfit and so they were unable to enjoy this experience and were bound to the pool and resort. The degree of difficulty listed on the paths was a bit of a joke amongst the guests. Easy paths would have been deemed as moderate and moderate as difficult etc in the real world. We would go back for the relaxing experience but would have to get fitter to tackle the walks on the island. Even on the coral beach, there were no lounges so swimmers could lie comfortably. Not an environment for disabled or unfit visitors.

A wonderful time on Fitzroy Island.
My children and I had a wonderful time on Fitzroy Island. We stayed 4 nights in lovely accommodation, very comfortable with beautiful views. The island is one of the most scenic places I have ever been and we took lots and lots of photos. (particularly sunset photos from the balcony of the restaurant). All of the staff from the lovely cleaning staff to the restaurant and reception staff were all very friendly and helpful. The weather was great and there was lots to do if so desired.

Had a great time at Fitzroy Island ..On arrival we had a few problems with our room that needed fixing ....eg light in bathroom was missing and had paper stuck over it ..Didnt get fixed but moved on last nite and the room was great ...Island itself was beautiful .....The restaurant could do with more choices and staff could be a little more friendly ...

Wow after reading other reviews chose to split our holiday and only spend 5 nights on the island...will definately stay longer on our next trip. The staff could not have been more helpful or friendly. Feel totally relaxed after our stay here. The food in the restaurant was excellent and offered plenty of options for my fussy husband. The walk to the light house and summit although an effort (especially in the middle of the day) is well worth the effort and the snorkelling is excellent. Can not wait for our next holiday as we will definately be paying another visit to Fitzroy Island.

beautiful and easy escape
Yet to be fully discovered Fitzroy Island is a stunningly beautiful and easy escape from commercial Cairns. The location of the resort offers unique evening views across to the mainland that allow your to listen to the gentle lapping of water while watching the sun go down. The wind never got overly , as it can do on other islands, due to the sheltered position of Welcome Bay. We had a quick parents escape and could not have asked for a better place to spend our precious quality time together.

About Travstar Booking Requests
There are some things a computer can't do.
We love helping people plan their holidays and we want to make sure we get it right.
Some holiday packages can be quite complicated with multiple tours and accommodation, pick-up times and extras.
That's why every booking made through a Travstar Website is checked by our local consultants.
It takes a little bit longer to get your tickets but we want to make sure everything is going to run smoothly for you.
How long wil it take to get my tickets?
Our team are alerted to new booking requests as they come in. During office hours you can expect to have your tickets within an hour or two.
After office hours your tickets may take up to 12 hours to arrive.
